COPD CE Webinar
Waiting to Exhale: Optimizing Patient Outcomes in Management of COPD
Kyle Copeland, PharmD
Clinical Pharmacist Specialist
Parkwest Medical Center Knoxville, Tennessee
Activity Overview
In the U.S., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is conservatively estimated to affect approximately 10 to 12 million people, and by the year 2020, it is expected to become the third leading cause of death. Since the pathophysiologic changes in COPD are irreversible, effective treatment is focused on slowing the decline in lung function, providing symptomatic therapy, and treating acute exacerbations. This CE activity is intended to explore prevalence and diagnosis of COPD and to review current guideline recommendations on management of this chronic airway disease. The discussion will also center on proper selection and use of currently available medication devices and the pharmacists’ role in optimizing management of COPD.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
Explore current prevalence, diagnosis and treatment of COPD
Evaluate the GOLD recommendations on COPD management and apply current guideline recommendations to improve standards of care and patients outcomes
Examine proper selection and use of currently available medication devices for COPD
Discuss the pharmacists’ role in optimizing management of COPD
