New CE/CME Online Activities
From the Managed Care Perspective!
A CE/CME Online Supplement to The American Journal of Managed Care
Activity Overview
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, affects approximately 1% of the world population and is associated with considerable morbidity and health care costs. Fortunately, management of this daunting disease has been largely transformed from mere symptom control to disease control with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologic agents. This activity is intended to provide a relevant discussion on epidemiology, pathophysiology, burden, and current management of RA. The focus of the treatment review will involve an analysis of comparative effectiveness of DMARDs and biologic agents. Also included is an examination of the impact of managed care and specialty pharmacy, as well as disease management programs, on the treatment of RA.
Intended audience: Pharmacists and managed healthcare professionals
Terms of Certification/Accreditation: November 12, 2012 – November 12, 2013

A CE/CME Online Supplement to The American Journal of Managed Care
Activity Overview
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects approximately 3% of the world’s population and has been declared a global health threat by the World Health Organization due to its impact on morbidity and mortality. An estimated 75% of individuals who acquire HCV progress to development of persistent chronic HCV infection, with associated risk of progressive liver disease, cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This activity is intended to describe the clinical and economic burden associated with HCV infection, evaluate efficacy and adverse effects of standard-of-care therapies, and assess potential of new and emerging HCV therapeutic strategies. Also included is a discussion on managed care considerations in the treatment of HCV, including strategies for determining cost effectiveness of treatment and the impact of changing treatment outcomes on managed care organizations.
Intended audience: Pharmacists and managed healthcare professionals
